Glossary

The following are terms you will find used on my blog that you may not be familiar with:

“Autonomic nervous system” or “ANS” is part of the peripheral nervous system that controls automatic body functions including, but not limited to, heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature, digestion, respiratory rate, and perspiration.

“BF” means my awesome boyfriend. Also, “roommate”.

“BP” means blood pressure.

“Bradycardia” means unusually slow heart rate.

“Dysautonomia” means any disease or malfunction of the autonomic nervous system. Dysautonomia includes POTS as well as other conditions.

“Dysautonomiac” means one who suffers from dysautonomia. Also, me.

“HR” means heart rate.

“Hypertension” means high blood pressure.

“Hypotension” means low blood pressure.

“Postural Orthostatic Tacyhcardia Syndrome (POTS)” means a condition of dysautonomia characterized by an abnormally large increase in heart rate when going from supine to standing position.

“POTSie” means one who suffers from POTS. Also, me.

“Spoonie” means someone who suffers from a chronic illness. The term is based on The Spoon Theory.

“Supine” means laying down flat on your back.

“Tachycardia” means unusually fast heart rate.
