Reblog: POTS and My Morning Routine {Living with POTS Series}

I am honored to have been asked by my blogging friend, Caroline, to contribute a post to her blog! Caroline has been an inspiration to me ever since I started following her blog. Like me, Caroline has postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS). Unlike me, Caroline has participated in a couple half marathons!  POTS certainly makes running a challenge, and I admire Caroline for persevering and doing what she loves.  Check out her blog, The Little Things.

In my guest post, I talk about how having POTS affects my morning routine.

———

At 6:30am every morning by alarm blares my chosen alarm ringtone – the song from The Lord of the Rings movie. I feel it adds a level of sophistication to my otherwise dull morning. If it’s supposed to make babies smarter if you play instrumental music, who knows what it could do for my brain fog??

I’m not usually asleep when the alarm goes off at 6:30. What time I wake up each morning depends on whether I had a particularly insomniac night. Some mornings I have been awake for hours by the time the dreaded song pierces my ears. Others, maybe just half an hour. More than anything, the alarm signifies it is time for my first medication of the day.

Mornings can be particularly difficult for people with POTS. After many hours without anything to drink, we wake up dehydrated. I always keep a bottle of water next to bed and take a drink everytime I wake up throughout the night, which usually occurs multiple times. After I hit the snooze on my alarm at 6:30, I chug whatever is left in the water bottle.

  1. There is so much I take for granted. Thanks for putting it in perspective for me. I am sorry your mornings are this rough.

  2. I just read your post on Caroline’s blog, it resonated with me so much especially the compression stockings bit! They use up so much of my energy to put on I’m really not sure if they’re worth it! Thank you for describing what mornings are like with POTs so well! It’s nice to know I’m not alone :)! Keep doing what you’re doing and pushing through, looking forward to reading more of your blog. Much love xx Emma

    1. Yes, I hate compression socks! They help a little, but I’m not sure they help enough to justify the 25 minutes it takes to get them on!

      P.S. I love the title of your blog!!

  3. Oh the joys of having POTS eh! I hate waking up in the morning dehydrated! Usually I roll over to grab m drink bottle, but soon realise that its empty, because I have guzzled the whole thing in my sleep. Well, waking up, drinking like i have been deprived of water for the last 10 years, then promptly falling asleep again 😛
