happy new year…

Happy New Year! I finally ordered a new computer (which won’t arrive for another week – arrggggg!)! It hasn’t arrived yet, so I am once again typing this post on my tablet and will keep it short. Look for a post on new year’s resolutions once I get my new laptop (which, fortunately, gives me a few days to think about what my new year’s resolutions are).

After I read this article, I felt like it was speaking to me. [If TL;DR – the article is about how it has become easy to pick up and abandon new hobbies or interests in pursuit of other interests – we acquire new books even when we have shelves of unread novels, we abandon the online Spanish class after a month, or never learn to play after buying that guitar.  The premise seems to be that we want new things more than we want to use or purpose the things. The article suggests devoting a year to going deeper into the things or interests we already have, and not acquiring anything new.] There are so many things I want to accomplish in my life, but have a short attention span. This year I want to read some of the many books I have instead of constantly checking out new ones from the library, finish the dvd class I started, use the exercise equipment I already have. As the article suggests, I want to go deeper, not wider. Now I just need to put it into specific goals.

Do you make resolutions? If so, what are your resolutions for 2018?

  1. I think that’s a very good point. Sometimes our attention wanders, the novelty wears off or life just gets in the way. Spending time going deeper and utilising what we have, focusing more specifically on what’s already there and our current goals sounds like a good idea!
Must admit I’ve not spent much time thinking about the NY yet; I’m not doing resolutions, but I’d like to come up with some goals, and/or a bucket list type thing of things I can tick off.
Great news about the computer, bet you can’t wait to get it! 🙂

    1. Yes, I am VERY excited for my computer! It’s one of those things I don’t realize I miss until I’m without it. You could take all of my tvs and I probably wouldn’t notice, but a day without my computer feels like an eternity!
