You may remember that I previously wrote about a recently released documentary, Unrest, which portrays how myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME), also known as chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), affects the life of a young woman. I have a personal interest in the documentary, not only because I helped fund the Kickstarter project with a small donation, but also because portions of the film remind me of my early days with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS). It does a better job of characterizing life with a chronic illness than anything I have seen. I wish it was required viewing in a class on how to be human, so that maybe people would no longer say insensitive things to me like “you just need to get some fresh air.”
If you would like to watch Unrest, it is coming to PBS tomorrow evening, Monday, January 8th. You can check your local listings here for more information. I highly recommend watching it.
[Edit: The film is now available on the pbs.org website for viewing: http://www.pbs.org/independentlens/videos/unrest/.]

i hope that link works in the UK!
I saw this last night. It was hard to watch. But I was transfixed and grateful for their honesty. The swedish? part really bothered me. So scary. So medieval.
there was a case of a 15 year old with POTS and mitochondrial disease here in the US who was taken from her parents and admitted to a psych ward because the doctors thought her parents had convinced her she was sick, and that it was all in her head. http://www.nationalreview.com/article/449036/medical-kidnapping-justina-pelletiers-ordeal
she’s out now, but after being separated from her parents for over a year. so sad.
